This morning's question comes from another anonymous mama [pic is of Parker on our vacation to Florida back in March]: I am going vacation in a few weeks and my baby will be a little over 3 months. I am leaving her with the grandma. Have any of you travelled without baby at that age? Also I have been exclusively breastfeeding her also pumping at times (so she is used to the bottle) and then recently we have been incorporating formula at times as well. Is there a specific brand/type of formula that you all like? Because im going to pump as much as I can for those days but not sure if I will have enough. Thanks!
I am supplementing my twins with Similac Advance Early Shield Infant Formula with Iron. They have responded well to it.
when my son was two months old I went two days and one night with my husband on vacation, I was so worried I wouldn't have enough pumped but I had WAY more than enough (and I don't have a crazy over supply) my advice to you is to get them used to formula if necessary but keep pumping when your baby sleeps or is full and pump while your on your trip so your milk doesn't dry up. breastfeeding is so beneficial for both of you, keep it up! it'll be worth it :)
My daughter had to use a bit of formula, and she went through a phase of not wanting formula only breast milk. I had to have two bottles ready, one with breast milk to start her going and when that was done I'd quickly switch to the formula bottle. Just a thought/suggestion to your parents not to use all your breast milk up the first few days, have a plan. Also maybe have a breast feeding friend that may be willing to donate incase things go askew while to are away! Have a fun trip!!
Something organic! Similac and Enfamil are 90% GMO. Along with a lot of other brands.. Good luck!
Just make sure whatever you give her you try in advance. We went on a trip over Christmas and realized when the stores were all closed, our daughter was allergic to the dairy base formulas.
Earth's best organic. It's at grocery stores now! Some targets even carry it.
When I supplemented I used Similac advanced early shield and both my boys responded ok. Because I was breastfeeding but not pumping much I had to give them the formula when my mom helped out.
My son did really well on Enfamil Infant (yellow can, I believe... Blue can until he was just over 3 months). Good luck with whatever you choose, and enjoy your vacation!

@sefox would like to know: Do any SAHMs have any tips or tricks they can share to staying organized and productive throughout the week?
Oops flylady and routines. You just have to fix them to work for you!
I use a really neat cleaning calendar that I got off from Pinterest. Just type in cleaning calendar and it should pop up! It has 1 main cleaning chore each day of the week, 1 big one per week, and then am & pm tidy ups. It helped me IMMENSELY!
Also- planning out a menu each week and just getting the ingredients when grocery shopping. That way you know what to get- and you don't end up buying a bunch of other stuff u don't need.
I'm a SAHM of twins (4 months) also running my jewelry business, so staying organized is super important for me if I want to keep it all afloat. I bought this great little weekly calendar pad at Target and I write my goals for each day down on the page, plus any commitments I've made. I've found that the key is to be realistic about how much I can get done each day. For example, I might just note "baby laundry" vs. expecting myself to get all family laundry done in a day. On that same day, I'll note maybe 2-3 other tasks that I know will only take up to 15 minutes each and that's it. Overcommitment just gets me down, because I find a lot of pleasure in checking off those tasks. Shower taking and dish/bottle cleaning are time-consuming tasks that are inevitably going to have to happen every day and sometimes those tasks are the only ones that get done at all, since I'm usually counting on both babies napping at the same time for most things to get done. I don't know if this will help, but I hope it does!
Wow...that was too long. Eek! Sorry!
I have recently gone back to work part time but to do lists help me! Meal planning too. I try to make big meals that will last for 2 nights. Also, I keep on top of the laundry! And try to have it done during the week so weekends are free from it. I always unload/reload the dishwasher first thing in the morning. And whenever my little guy naps I tidy up, clean and/or prep dinner for the evening!
Definitely not too long @bonbonjewels, great advice! This is a great question! I, too, could use some organization tips!
I gave up π±

Question tonight from @imarcngrl: I picked up my son at daycare the other day. This is only his 3rd week there and he only goes 2 days a week. Anyway, when I took him from his teacher I noticed scratches on his face. The teacher never offered info so I asked what happened. She said "Oh We had rough playing going on today" Umm...OK. am I overreacting by thinking they should have been more proactive?
@imarcngrl Hi mama! I was a preschool teacher and also have volunteered at my church for over 10 years in the nursery/preschool. The answer you were given is definitely NOT acceptable and as a mom I would be upset also. Incident reports are supposed to be filled out for every mark on your child and explained to you the moment you pick up your child. Talk to whoever is in charge and let them know how this incident was handled. That teacher should have known the correct protocol, but if not, she should be informed thusly by her boss.
I agree with @hmiller4353. our daycare does an incident report for any marks, bumps, scratches, with full description of what happened at the time of the incident. I would definitely ask the director about their policy. i feel like we should be made aware of exactly what happens and how without having to ask. he looks like such a sweet boy! hope his scratches heal quickly!
Def not overreacting...I would have done the same thing!! And they def should have informed u of the scratches before you asked.
Um he looks like a baby!!! I'd be all like babies don't play rough doe lady. πππ
Weird. I'd be concerned that the didn't even care enough to tell you before you had to ask. Any visible marks like that warrant some kind of explanation. Especially since he's just a baby.
@imarcngrl No... You are definitely NOT being over reactive. At my son's former preschool, they would write an incident report even if it was the tiniest scratch, bump, bruise, etc... Parents have the right to be informed of any and everything! And if you aren't being informed, than its time to question their care. We put our trust in these individuals to care for our kids in hopes that they take the best care and precautions for them and incidents like those, that go unreported, make you wonder why it wasn't reported. It's always good to drop in, when least expected... To see how things really go when we are at work. Good Luck and I hope it was just a one time error on their part.
Most daycares have to fill out an accident form if anything happens. My son fell and gave himself a small rug burn on his nose and they still notified me! I would be a little nervous but I might just be overprotective. It just seems a little too vague of an explanation.
@imarcngrl I have worked in child care for 5+ years and they definitely should have filled out an incident report and at the very least, they should have explained the scratches to you before you had to ask. The teacher seems very unprofessional or at least inexperienced and I think anything that makes you slightly uneasy is a good enough reason to speak to the owner/director of the school. You are paying them to care for and protect your child while you are at work and you are well within your rights to be upset by this. Best of luck!
