What is your mutation? I'm fev1 45% and delta f508 and in 2 months I'm going to be participating in a study of the kalydeco mixed drug specifically for the delta f508 gene, and as compassion if the drug works for participants we get it for free for the company for life. I don't know if your clinic is participating but if you have the mutation it's worth checking out. The drug is supposed to reverse side effects of CF just like kalydeco did for the 1st study. My doc feels so positive about the new drug that he is thinking about retiring if it works. I've heard amazing things so far, I'm really close with my CF nurse, i consider her one of my closest friends and she tells me everything about every conference she goes to and this study sounds so exciting. If it works they will continue the same methods until they cover most of the mutations.

@whatevsforevs that study is rolling through phase 2 very quickly and will hopefully move into phase 3 soon. Very exciting stuff. Be careful though with the results you hope for. They have seen great things, but the drug can't actually reverse damaged or scarred lungs. It can, however, help to make the lungs function as they should and to clear nearly all the mucus causing breathing issues. In some there may be a 10% increase and in others only 3% but every little bit helps, and for those of us fighting for every single point, it's exciting news! 💙👌

@breatheeasywithus yeah I'm aware it can't reverse all the scarred tissue. I'm definitely being realistic but really optimistic and hopeful about this though. I've read everything my nurse has sent me about it, now just waiting for the study to begin. I'm also aware that I may get a placebo, but if the drug works the way they are hoping, after the study everyone who took part even the placebo taking patients will be getting the drug for free so that's a major plus. Every little bit helps!
