when life’s seas are smooth,
i tend to sail away.
but when the tsunami swirls,
to You I hasten, to You I pray.
sad and disgusting
is what you must surely see me as.
yet you’ve promised that you love me like a jewel-
sapphire, diamond, topaz.
even in its dirtiest state,
You see value, richness, with much at stake.
habitually i break my promises;
You keep yours.
others would have shunned me;
of me you seek and desire more.
i run my testimony through the mud.
You lift and clean me up-
You comfort and caress
when i feel tired and worthless.
