Sorry everyone, it's been ages since I've posted a photo. Sadly I'm now back from my trip and freezing to death in cold, wet Sydney! π©πβ On the bright side, I have almost 30GB of photos from my trip, so hopefully there are a few good ones in there I can share. Lets start with wonderful Bangkok! This city sure did impress! There is food and markets everywhere you look. What's even better is that the food tastes amazing!!! This was the first night after we arrived in BKK and went out for a walk!

@dindasaras hi hi, I've been travelling and only just it back on Friday. I'm totally not used to this freezing weather and I'm totally dying here!!! Macadamia taste is very unique and hard to describe. It's mellow and subtle, nutty taste and full of good fats! Hope you can try some one day, but make sure you buy ones that are already out of he shell or you will find it nearly impossibly to open!! Hahaha

I absolutely love Thai food, but for some reason I never attempted to cook anything Thai before. I think it's because the recipes require so many different ingredients and you always need to buy a lot of each yet probably only need a small amount!
However, what better way to prepare for my trip to Thailand than to try cooking a Thai dish! After watching MKR and seeing that banana blossoms are actually edible (I never knew that before) I thought I had to try them!
The big motivator, I knew exactly where I could harvest a freshly growing banana blossom!! ππ So instead of using the recipe off MKR I found another for Coconut Chicken & banana blossom salad, which sounded yum!
Luckily I read many recipes which taught me how to deal with banana blossoms properly in order to make them edible! The one I chose was quite vague and had I simply followed it, I would've ended up with a very unpleasant result! In the end, this was every bit as delicious as the recipe sounded and hopefully I can learn some more about Thai cooking next week and when I come back home I can try some more awesome exotic recipes! Oh and this WA an awesome way to test my first ripe homegrown Thai Birdseye chilli, and yes it's damn hot - but not as hot as the habaneros of course!

@rostrata Thank you for your kind compliment. I never even saw it or heard about it before it was on a TV show in Australia and so I tried to make it! I've seen bananas blossoms in Thailand for sale but haven't encountered banana blossom salad yet! Papaya salad and mango salad are very common and I've been eating them all the time!! I would love to buy spices in Thailand but I don't think they would get back in through our customs π

One of the incredible trees growing on top of Uluru!! I seriously never knew or expected to find trees growing on top of the rock, and not just tiny little seedlings, but actual trees!! I'm so glad I ventured past the peak or I would never have seen this incredible sight. Now I'm wondering what else I would've discovered if I walked across the length if the rock? Or perhaps I would reach a point where it's not possible to continue or there's a deep gully that can't be crossed!

@rostrata I think just see how you feel when get there and decide if you'd like to climb or not. I was undecided but then I really wanted to do it and I am happy I did. I didn't take any rock pieces with me and didn't leave behind any rubbish or damage anything. Although it's still frowned upon, I am at peace with how I went about my climb.

With the warm weather we've been having it could be easy to think it's spring, not autumn here. But sadly, it looks like our dream run has come to an end with today's gloomy, wet and chilly weather! :-( So I think it's time to add a bit of colour and pray for some more warm and sunny weather!! These incredibly bright purple flowering trees are in full bloom now. I have no idea what they're called, but there are pockets of amazing purple colour dotted all over among the green trees!

I think the majority of people who climb Uluru would go to the summit, where they find the marker and then turn around and head back down. However being the curious type that I am, I wanted to go further and see what else there is beyond the peak, and just as well that I did!
Unlike the climb to the summit, the other side has a secret garden and huge boulders, which appear to just be sitting on top of the rock! It looks like many of these boulders are loose, which makes you wonder where they broke off from and how they got there! As for the trees and grasses growing on top of the rock, I never imagined to find something like this, truly amazing!

The humble tomato flower. It might not be the most incredible flower, but I think it has some simplistic beauty to it. Also it's often easy to miss seeing them like this since they always face downwards! The night yellow against yesterday's cloudy sky gave a nice contrast I think!
Oh and yes it's supposed to be autumn, but try telling that to my tomatoes which are flowering again! @mallory_a I'm still in Thailand, Phuket atm on a crappy little mini bus back to the hotel. BKK and Chiang Mai are cool, but Phuket is one disappointment after another! Next stop will be KL! Most of my pics are on my laptop, haven't had time to sort and upload any yet sadly, but there will be plenty!!

@mallory_a Phuket is a tourist processing factory! Went on the worst most disorganised island tour ever! The beach areas are 100% westernised and don't feel like you're even in Thailand, more like Russia! Its crazy that most restaurant and shops have English and Russian writing! Never knew Phuket was a major destination for Russian tourists. Then there's the "Phuket taxi Mafia" Google it and you'll see plenty of crazy experiences on TripAdvisor and other sites. They fix the prices, run a monopoly and are above the law, so they essentially run the island, since public transport is nearly non existent and the island is huge and spread out. The water at the beach is so warm which is great, but next time I come to Thailand I'd go to a smaller less touristy island where the beaches are cleaner and you get a more authentic Thai experience, rather than a rip off tourist trap like here!

The final stretch towards the Uluru summit, 348m above the ground and 863m above sea level! Although super tiny, on the left you can see a person standing next to the geo marker indicating you've reached the top! Since the rock is so huge and wide, the view from the very top is quite limited. Climbing up Uluru on the very, very steep section! Pulling yourself up using the chain really is the only way! It's extremely tiring, but looking behind you rewards you with amazing views, making the effort worthwhile.

@yumi4eva Aww thank you!! βΊβΊ Hey if I was able to climb then surely someone as fit as you would have no problems!! π You're right though, it is very slippery, the rock surface is quite smooth surprisingly and especially on this initial stretch because it's so steep and you can see a track from where people have walked over many years. Going down is much scarier though, my toes were so sore from my feet pushing against the front of my shoes for so long!!!
I wish some day I can climb Uluru too!!! It's like it's calling me!!! Haha climbing is really my thing! My father says:"Iguess you should've been a monkey!" ππ

Today is the saddest day of the year... Summer is now officially over! It has been one crazy summer in Sydney this year.
Hot and dry in December and half of January, with an all time record breaking 46Β° record set, which I never thought I'd see in Sydney!
Then the rain came, and then the ex tropical cyclone, followed by 3 average weeks. Then last week came the super storm, with "mini twisters" and the strongest winds I've ever experienced in Sydney. At times I wondered whether my windows will be blown in. Seeing glass flexing is quite an unnatural sight!! I'm just praying the forecasters have got it wrong, with predictions of 40 days of rain and an early start to winter... Well considering autumn promptly arrived this afternoon, it's not looking too promising!

On my way up Uluru. This is about 1/3 of the way up the first section! The view just keeps getting better and better as you go up! That's the car parking area at the base of the rock! This is where the Uluru climb starts. The first section where you need to hold onto and pull yourself up using the chain is extremely difficult!! In the summer months the rangers close the climb around 8am because already it's too hot to safely climb! @krysannova_1104 really, only 37?! But I think you would have high humidity which makes it feel much hotter? In the outback there is almost no humidity. Often it's 5% of lower and the air is soooooo dry! That's why you see everyone carrying a big bottle of water with them when walking, you really need to keep drinking constantly I avoid dehydration!!

All this week my whole area has been smelling like being inside a jasmine tea pot! All the jasmine is flowering at the same time and the smell is absolutely amazing!!! It had to be one of the most beautiful smelling flowers I know of!

As soon as we arrived at Ayers Rock Resort and got out of the car, I looked up and saw a small cloud that completely hid the sun! β
The result was the sun rays flaring out from behind the small cloud in all directions!! βββ Sadly this photo doesn't so it justice, especially not in IG's small crop format, but I had to share it anyway because I've never seen a sun flare like that before!! π On case it isn't already obvious from all my cloud pics, I totally fell in love with the clouds, sun rays and sky in the outback!! π

My home grown Wapsipinicon Peach Tomatoes, and no don't ask me how to pronounce that! All I know is they taste delicious!! All the research I did paid off and these really are great tasting heirloom tomatoes! The flavour is mellow, low acidity, sweet and very tomatoey, something that's definitely missing in all shop bought tomatoes!

@miz_paula Yeah it's very sweet with a wonderful tomato flavour!! πβ¨π Is that the upside down thing where they grow out the bottom? If so I don't know how well that would work with this tomato as it likes I grow straight up very tall! Mine was up past 2m tall and I was struggling to contain it and stop the pot from tipping over in the wind!! π± If you do try let me know how it goes, would be interesting to see if it does well in the grower! Btw I got my plant from Bunnings, not sure if they would still have some now since it's probably too late in the season to start them over here, but you'd be ok I think since you lucky ducks seem to have a very long summer stretching well into what "should" be autumn!! πβ

@glenda21 thank you for the kind words!! βΊβΊ I think I was just very lucky with the weather! However they're saying more heavy rain is on the way Friday and Saturday, so that doesn't sound good!! I guess it goes to show that even on a small NE facing balcony it's possible to grow a range of fruits, flowers and herbs! π Btw my Thai Birdseye chillies that I started from seeds are almost about to flower, well the first of 3 anyway. I hope they will be successful despite the less than favourable weather and being in smaller sized pots. The second one I've been pruning more in hope of getting it to grow more bushy rather than upwards as these chillies tend to grow. So it's not at the flowering stage yet. The third one is a bit of a runt! I didn't think it's survive, so I've kept it in a small pot and been pruning constantly to keep it very small, it's now almost like a bonsai chilli!! ππ I wonder if it will eventually produce tiny chillies?!
Uh oh more heavy rain?! better keep them safe from the rain,Thai Birdseye chillies? I haven't seen one, or did I miss it on your post? Yes, just keep pruning them because they tend to grow upwards. Now that's a cute one! a chilli bonsai?!π then you'll harvest a bonsai chilli, that I would love to see!πππ
@glenda21 nope you haven't missed it because the Thai chilli flowers haven't opened yet!! π I really hope the rain won't knock off the flowers and my habanero is starting to get covered in a second round of flowers now!! I didn't know it can produce 2 crops in one season! It still has a ton of chillies on it, which are no doubt getting super hot the longer I leave them on!! I'm really curious to see if I will have tiny bonsai chillies, or whether the mini chilli will even produce chillies?!

@mchaw haha you'll have to come and visit next season! I still have a few late tomatoes ripening on the vine. However there's been a lot of rain the past few weeks so I don't think they will be as nice as the peak crop. My big tubs which hold my pots were completely filled with water, so my plants were literally floating after the rain!! I also have random mushrooms coming up now which is quite amazing!! Makes me wonder if they are edible! ππ¨
Oh I just wonder if they are easy to grow. Like if they need plenty of sunshine and how often do u water them? Wow i wonder what those mushrooms look like. ππ
@mchaw Yeah they are quite easy to grow actually! Their main requirement is lots of sunshine. They need at least 8 hours of sun per day and as the plant gets bigger it needs more water. When it was really hot at the end of last year I was watering my tomatoes about every 1-2 days. The yellow tomato was even thirstier, no matter how much water I gave it, it just kept drinking!! Also you need to liquid fertilise every 2 weeks, that way they grow big and tasty.
Oh wow it's just impossible for me to grow them as they won't be able to get enough sunshine here π sounds really amazing about the mushroom especially you were watching how it grew. π
@mchaw I think also with the humidity in HK tomatoes will suffer from fungal diseases very easily. They prefer drier weather where the leaves don't get wet. Perhaps that's why my tomatoes did so remarkably well because we had so much hot dry weather last year!! The biggest challenge was keeping them hydrated enough! Haha Although I read that anything over 30C causes stress to tomatoes and may cause flowers to drop off, luckily that didn't happen. π
Yeah probably! The hot and humid weather in summer here can be suffocating even for human being! ππ

It's been absolutely pouring non stop the past 2 days!! That's what happens when a tropical cyclone breaks up and doesn't get pushed out to sea... Instead it slowly travels 3,000km south, leaving a trail of flooding behind it! π±βββπ All of my plants it flooded badly from constant rain, I just hope they still have a few nutrients left in the soil and they will survive and not rot!! πΏπ Looking on the bright side, some light water drops on my chilli leaves looks really nice in the morning! π

While taking some photos around the giant duck in the evening, I saw the most enormous jellyfish ever!! This thing would've been at least 40cm across, I have never seen one so big in my life!! π±π±π± I wonder of this one would sting?! Unfortunately I had my wide angle lens on my camera at the time, and I didn't want to change lenses on the edge of the water, so wasn't able to zoom in.
