Spain - Valencia : Picture : L'assut d'Or and behind, l'Agora. Nikon D7000 + Tokina 11-16. On the same picture, the Assut d'Or bridge and the Agora. Both designed by by Santiago Calatrava, a local architect. Both are located near the "Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències". The bridge was completed in december 2009. The name l'Assut d'Or mean the Dam of the Gold and refers to a dam that was formerly located nearby. The Agora is a large covered and multifonctional space for any kind of meeting, like the Valencian ATP tour and was completed in november 2009. France - Marseille - Le vieux Port : Le vieux port has been the natural harbour of Marseille since antiquity. This is the most famous place in Marseille. Until the nineteenth century the Old Port remained the centre of maritime activity in Marseille. Today "Le vieux Port" is used as a marina, as a terminal for local boat trips and hosts a local fish market. Since 2013, for the European Capital of Culture, the Old Port is mainly destinated to pedestrians, it has been renewed as a large mineral public square following an international concourse won by Foster and Partners.

France - Marseille - Frioul Island : Since 1971 the Frioul Archipelago belongs to the city of Marseille. The little village "Port Frioul" was created in 1974. There are some restaurants, a leasure port with 700 rings that welcomes numerous visitors. This island also is the shelter of the first biological aquaculture, for bass, in the world. On the Frioul island, many creeks can be reached after a walk as well as lovely beaches : Maison des Pilotes (sand), le Havre de Morgiter (cobblestones and rocks), the calanque of Saint Estève (sand), the "plage du débarcadère" (cobblestones).

France - Marseille - Frioul Island : The Frioul archipelago points to the coast the relief of its 4 islands: Pomègues, Ratonneau, If and Tiboulen. Calanques, beaches, sandy creeks, impressive cliffs, the light quality and the water transparency make the islands a spot of great beauty. Still a conservation area, it is an authentic encounter in the Mediterranean sea. The microclimate generates original and rare floral species, adapted to the conditions of aridity that characterize the spot. Furthermore, the Mistral is the great actor of the islands, it sculpts, gnaws and arranges them. The islands are also the kingdom of plants called "xérophytes" because of the dryness and "alophytes" because of the salt and their strange forms. 200 species can be observed and some are protected. These islands are also a refuge for numerous birds. They are, for example, the favorite domain of the Caspian Gull, called "gabian" in Provence.

France - Marseille - Château d'If : Picture : View from the Château d'If. The"Château d'If" is a fortress who bacame a prison later. The island is located in the Frioul Archipel. The "château" is a square, three-story building 28 m long on each side, flanked by three towers with large gun embrasures. It was built in 1524-31 on the orders of King Francis I, who, during a visit in 1516, saw the island as a strategically important location for defending the coastline from sea-based attacks. However, its construction was extremely controversial. When Marseille was annexed to France in 1481, it retained the right to provide for its own defence. The castle was therefore seen by many of the local inhabitants as an unwanted imposition of central authority.

The island became internationally famous in the 19th century when the famous writer Alexandre Dumas used it as a setting for "The count of Monte Cristo". In the book, the main character, "Edmond Dantès" and his mentor, Abbé Faria were both imprisoned in this island.

Spain - Madrid - Almudena Cathedral : Picture : Inside the Cathedral, the Organ. The site on which Almudena Cathedral now stands was originally occupied by Madrid's first mosque, then by a church dedicated to one of Madrid's patron saints, Santa María de la Almudena. Plans for a grand new church began in the 16th century after King Philip II made Madrid the capital of Spain. But construction was constantly postponed due to various political issues and opposition from the powerful archdiocese of Toledo. Finally, in 1868, Madrid received permission from Toledo to construct a new church dedicated to the Virgin of Almudena. Construction began in 1883 based on a Neo-Gothic design. The first part to be completed was the crypt, which contains a 16th-century image of Madrid's patroness the Virgen de la Almudena. A year later, in 1884, Pope Leo XIII created the Diocese of Madrid, giving Madrid a bishop and raising the status of the new Almudena church to a cathedral. The building plans were updated to reflect the elevated status of the building. Construction on the cathedral progressed slowly and came to a complete halt during the civil war of the 1930s. The process began again in 1944, when the new architect introduced a Neoclassical style that would match the Royal Palace next door. Almudena Cathedral was completed in 1993 and consecrated in person by Pope John Paul II that same year. A statue of the pope in front of the cathedral commemorates the momentous occasion. The cathedral was given another publicity boost with the sumptuous wedding of Prince Felipe and Doña Letizia in May 2004, the first such royal event in nearly a century.

This Palace is located on a site called "Mayrit" a 9th century old fortress. The palace has 135k square meters of floorspace and 3418 rooms. Classed second largest Palace in Europe...after the Louvre Palace ✌✌💪
